Soccer star Lloyd to throw out first pitch

SEATTLE -- Carli Lloyd, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and hero of the U.S. Women's World Cup soccer championship team, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Mariners-Orioles game on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Safeco Field.

Lloyd is a midfielder for the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League and her team will be in Seattle to play the Seattle Reign FC on Aug. 12 at Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium.

Lloyd scored six goals -- including three in the championship game -- and had one assist during the recent World Cup and received the Golden Ball trophy as the best player in the tournament.

Soccer fans can buy specially priced tickets for the game and receive a limited edition T-shirt that celebrates the U.S. Women's National Team's 5-2 win against Japan for its third World Cup title.

Specially priced tickets are $16 for View Level (regularly $23) and $30 for Main Level (regularly $42). Tickets are only available online at mariners.com/soccer. The deadline to purchase tickets through the offer is Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. PT.
