Gomez's great grab robs CarGo of homer

MILWAUKEE -- The beauty of playing defense like Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is that you can go 0-for-4 and have a good night.

That was the case on Wednesday for the speedster, who broke back for Carlos Gonzalez's deep drive in the sixth inning, leapt at the wall and pulled back a home run, keeping the Brewers within two runs of the Rockies in an eventual 7-3 Brewers loss. Three games into the season, it was an early contender for Brewers play of the year.

"Every time you steal a home run, you feel really good about it," Gomez said.

By the time the clubhouse opened to reporters after the game, Gomez had already watched video of the play to grade his performance.

"As soon as he hit the ball, I tried to get a good jump, like I did, and look how far [away] the wall is," Gomez said. "If you see the replay, I look at the wall twice. Then I got perfect timing, I got a perfect jump, and definitely, I had it."
