Manuel to join Phillies' Wall of Fame on Aug. 9

Manager will be honored during Alumni Weekend, day after Halladay Bobblehead Night

PHILADELPHIA -- Charlie Manuel is one of just two managers in Phillies history to win a World Series. Nobody has won more games as Phils manager, either.

This summer, Philadelphia will honor him for those accomplishments and more. The Phillies announced Tuesday afternoon that Manuel will be inducted into the team's Wall of Fame at Citizens Bank Park on Aug. 9 during Alumni Weekend.

"I am honored to be enshrined on the Wall of Fame with Phillies greats such as Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, and of course, my good friend, Dallas Green," Manuel said in a statement. "I want to thank [team president] David Montgomery and the entire Phillies organization. This would not be happening if not for the great players and coaches I had around me. The years I spent in Philadelphia were some of the best of my professional career, and I owe a lot of that to the fans. I have said this before, but they are the best in the game."

Manuel managed the Phils from 2005-13, posting a 780-636 (.551) record in that span. He led the team to five consecutive National League East championships from 2007-11, which included two NL pennants and the World Series championship in 2008.

The Phillies dismissed Manuel as manager last season and replaced him with Ryne Sandberg. Manuel was recently named senior adviser to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.

"It is only fitting that Charlie become the newest member of our Wall of Fame," Montgomery said in a statement. "His contributions to our club, his unparalleled connection with our fans, and his overall passion and love of the game made the decision an easy one. He has left an indelible mark on Phillies history, and he deserves this honor."

The Phils announced Roy Halladay Bobble Figurine Day on Aug. 8 as part of the weekend's festivities. Tickets will be available for the Alumni Weekend games beginning Feb. 13, which is the day single-game tickets go on sale. Go to phillies.com or call 215-463-1000 for more information.
