Chen has successful right knee surgery
After removal of bone spurs, pitcher expected back by Spring Training
Pitcher Wei-Yin Chen had successful surgery to remove small bone spurs in his right knee, the Orioles announced Thursday night.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Richard Steadman of the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., last week, and Chen was expected to be ready when pitchers and catchers report in mid-February.
"Wei-Yin had a procedure done on his right knee that should prevent him from future discomfort in the knee," executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said in a team-released statement. "The recovery period is three to four months, so we do not expect him to miss any time during Spring Training."
Chen, who missed nearly two months this season with a left oblique strain, went 7-7 with a 4.07 ERA in 23 starts for the Orioles in 2013.
