White Sox reach deal with second-rounder Adams

The White Sox have agreed to terms with right-hander Spencer Adams, the team's second-round choice in last week's MLB First-Year Player Draft.

According to MLB.com's Jim Callis, Adams passed his physical and will receive a signing bonus of $1,282,700, which was the full recommended value. CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes first reported the news.

The White Sox were focused on the righty out of White County High School in Georgia when considering who to take with the 44th overall pick. Callis had Adams going as high as 22nd to the Dodgers, in the first round.

"He's a real athletic kid," White Sox assistant scouting director Nick Hostetler said of Adams. "He's an exciting player: projectable but also shows now stuff."

MLB.com's Prospect Watch ranked Adams at No. 27 on the Top 200 Draft Prospects list, with a fastball sitting in the low 90s and topping out at 96 mph. He finished this past season with a 4-2 record and a 0.72 ERA over 58 1/3 innings, striking out 90, while walking just 11 and allowing 27 hits.
