Rangers claim Gimenez off waivers from A's

The Rangers have claimed catcher Chris Gimenez off waivers from the A's, Oakland announced Friday.

The 31-year-old backstop was claimed by the A's off waivers from Tampa Bay on Dec. 20. He hit .242 with three RBIs in 25 Cactus League games with Oakland this spring.

Gimenez spent nearly the entire 2013 season with Triple-A Durham, batting .224 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 95 games. He went 1-for-3 with a walk in a brief four-game stint with the Rays late in the year.

Over a five-year career (143 games) with Cleveland (2009-10), Seattle ('11) and Tampa Bay ('12-13), Gimenez has hit .199 with six homers and 30 RBIs.
