Yelich could rejoin Marlins during road trip

Left fielder seeing Minor League game action in return from back strain

WASHINGTON -- Don't be surprised if outfielder Christian Yelich joins the Marlins on their 10-game road trip.

Out since April 20 with a lower back strain, Yelich is currently on a rehab assignment in Florida with Class A Advanced Jupiter. He played five innings Sunday, and the plan is for him to play a a full nine-inning game before returning to the Majors.

"He's not that far off," stated Marlins manager Mike Redmond, who specified games in San Francisco as target dates.

Miami faces the defending World Series champion Giants for four games starting Thursday after a three-game set against the Nationals. The Marlins conclude their road swing with three games at Dodger Stadium.

Yelich, 23, batted .200 with four RBIs in 11 games this season. The left fielder finished the 2014 campaign with a .284 average, nine home runs, 54 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
