Cleveland Indians join in 2012 Navy Week festivities

Nearly 250 Navy Personnel to Participate in Activities at Progressive Field August 27- September 1

CLEVELAND, OH-- The Cleveland Indians are excited to join the City of Cleveland in welcoming the United States Navy for the 2012 Navy Week, August 27- September 1. Progressive Field will host nearly 250 sailors during the week of August 27. 

The in-game pageantry includes Navy Color Guards, Naval Band performances, ceremonial first pitches by Admiral Sandy Winnefeld, USS Ohio Senior Chief Thomas T. Nissen, Naval flyovers and a parachute drop by the United States Navy Leap Frogs. In addition, there will be a 35-person Future Sailor Swear-In.

Fans attending the week’s festivities can participate in great promotions including Puppypalooza & Sugardale Dollar Dog Night (August 29), Indians Rally Alley, presented by RTA (August 31 & September 1) and an encore of our Rock N’ Blast fireworks show featuring a tribute to the music of The Beatles (September 1).

TEAM SHOPS MILITARY DISCOUNT

In conjunction with Navy Week, Cleveland Indians Team Shops will offer a Military discount of 15% when presented with a current Military ID from any branch of the Military. The Military discount offer will be valid Monday, August 27 through Thursday, August 30. Some exclusions apply.

HONORED NAVY PERSONNEL

Our  Nation's second highest-ranking military officer, Admiral Winnefeld is a Naval Aviator who's commanded at every level of the military, including a tour as Commander of US Northern Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was serving as the commanding officer for the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise on 9-11 and led the ship during initial combat operations in Afghanistan in 2001.   It is also worth noting, he participated in the filming of "Top Gun" while serving at the Miramar Naval Air Station fighter weapons school in the mid-1980s. Admiral Winnefeld also serves as a champion for our wounded warriors, their families and caregivers.

  • Presentation: USS Cleveland Battle Flag given to the Cleveland Indians by Admiral Winnefeld
  • 8-person Navy Color Guard
  • Photo Day

Tuesday, August 28: Indians vs. Athletics @7:05PM

  • Ceremonial first pitch by USS Ohio Senior Chief Thomas T. Nissen
  • 60-person Navy display along the baselines of Progressive Field
  • 8-person Navy Color Guard
  • Fill the House for the United Way of Greater Cleveland

Wednesday, August 29: Indians vs. Athletics @7:05PM

  • National Anthem performed by Musician Third Class Michelle Werner
  • 8-person Color Guard
