Colorado Rockies select pitcher Mike Nikorak as the 27th overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft
Right-hander is club's second pick in draft's first round
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - With the 27th overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft tonight, and the club's second in the first round, the Colorado Rockies selected right-handed pitcher Mike Nikorak.
The 18-year-old Nikorak is a native of Stroudsburg, Pa., and attended Stroudsburg High School. He is a 2015 Perfect Game 1st Team All-American and was All-Atlantic Regional 1st Team selection. He was named to the 2014 Under Class 2nd Team.
At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Nikorak was ranked by USA Today as the fifth-best overall high school prospect eligible for the '15 draft. He is ranked by MLB.com at No. 15 overall among all players in the draft. According to Baseball America, he is the sixth-highest ranked pitcher and the 16th overall prospect.
Nikorak was 2-1 with a 0.94 ERA, throwing 29.2 innings with 21 walks and 50 strikeouts.
The Rockies have a total of four selections on the first day of the draft. They selected infielder Brendan Rodgers of Lake Mary (Florida) High School as the third overall pick.
