Community charities win at Players Trust All Star Golf Tournament

CINCINNATI -- The Players Trust held its third annual midseason golf tournament, and, as usual, a host of charities doing great work in their communities were the big winners.

Reds outfielder Jay Bruce and former Reds All-Star Eric Davis, the co-hosts of this summer's event Wednesday at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, selected Point Arc of Northern Kentucky and Arc of Beaumont (TX) and the Dave Parker 39 Foundation as beneficiaries.

Joining Bruce and Davis were Reds legends Barry Larkin, Ken Griffey Sr., Paul O'Neill (pictured), Ron Oester, Tom Browning, Scott Williamson and Billy Hatcher. Former big leaguers Marlon Anderson , Bobby Bonilla, Phil Bradley, Zach Day and Steve Rogers also golfed with the Players Trust's sponsors and guests.

"All the events that the Players Trust puts on are first class and done right," Anderson said. "You have people out here supporting a great cause. The Trust gives us a way to give back to our communities. It's a way for the players to donate time, money and energy to causes that are dear to their hearts.

"It's great to be part of something like this, especially when you're doing it with your baseball family."

Together, they raised money and awareness for the charities, which are making a big difference in their communities.

The Arc works to ensure that the estimated 7.2 million Americans with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the services and support they need to grow, develop and live in communities across the nation.

The Dave Parker 39 Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on finding a cure for Parkinson's disease in our lifetime, and making life better for those living with the disease today. Portions of the costs to participate in the golf tournament are tax deductible.

The Players Trust All Star Golf Tournament is part of the nonprofit's fundraising programming efforts. Each offseason for the past 11 years, the Trust has hosted a tournament on some of the country's most exclusive golf courses, such as Shawdow Creek in Las Vegas, Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif., and Scottsdale TPC and Grayhawk Golf Club in Arizona.

The Trust hosted its previous All Star Golf Tournaments on the legendary Black Course in Bethpage, Long Island, in 2013, to benefit Superstorm Sandy victims, and at Windsong Farm in Independence, Minn., in 2014, to benefit Minnesota-area children's charities. To date, the Trust has raised more than $1 million for various causes through its golf events.
