Correia pleased with first Grapefruit League start

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Kevin Correia was solid in his Grapefruit League debut against the Blue Jays on Monday, as the right-hander tossed three hitless innings in the Twins' 12-2 victory at Hammond Stadium.

Correia was sharp for a second straight outing, as he also threw two hitless innings in Thursday's intrasquad game. He came away pleased with the way his arm felt, especially in the second inning after a long wait, as the Twins scored four runs in the opening frame with Jays left-hander J.A. Happ only able to record one out.

"I felt fine," Correia said. "There was a long wait in between the first inning and second inning, which is kind of tough with it being your first inning back out there, but I managed to work around it a little bit like I would during the season. For the most part, my stuff felt pretty good."

Correia, who posted a 4.18 ERA in 31 starts with the Twins last season, mixed in all of his pitches, including a two-seam fastball, four-seam fastball, cutter, slider, changeup and curveball.

"I'm just trying to get command and control of all of them," Correia said. "I want to be confident and be able to throw all my pitches at any count by the time we get out of here."
