Cuban pitcher Pedroso killed in traffic accident

Twenty-six-year-old right-hander a member of country's Classic team

Before the start of Sunday's World Baseball Classic semifinal matchup between Puerto Rico and Japan at AT&T Park, a moment of silence was held for Cuban pitcher Yadier Pedroso, who died in a traffic accident over the weekend in his native Cuba.

Pedroso was in a car that crashed into a cargo truck on Friday night on a highway outside of Artemisa, a province located about 40 miles from Havana.

The 26-year-old tossed 1 2/3 innings as a member of the Cuban national team during this year's World Baseball Classic.

Taking part in 10 international competitions during his career, Pedroso played in 26 games and complied a 1-2 record as a relief pitcher.
