Cubs start Day 2 with Illinois prep southpaw

Here's a closer look at the Cubs' final picks of Day 2:

Sixth round (No. 173): RHP David Berg, UCLA
Don't let Berg's 6-foot, 190-pound frame fool you: The submarine righty reliever is durable. His 132 appearances over his three-year career are not only the most in UCLA history, but also Pac-12 history.

In 2013 he became the first Bruin to win the National College Baseball Writers' Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the nation's top relief pitcher. Not surprisingly, he admires former Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.

Seventh round (No. 203): RHP Craig Brooks, Catawba College (N.C.)
A two-way player in college who appeared at shortstop and third base when he wasn't pitching, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Brooks likely profiles as a reliever in professional baseball.

Brooks was 9-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 19 games (14 starts) this past season for the Indians, striking out 158 batters in 99 innings while holding opponents to a .156 average.

Eighth round (No. 233): RHP Preston Morrison, Texas Christian
Morrison is part of a TCU team making yet another trip to the College World Series this season, and the righty is a big reason why. Morrison is 11-3 with a 2.55 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) this season while holding opponents to a .223 average.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound righty was a consensus Second Team All-American as a junior in 2014, a year in which he was named Big 12 Player of the Year while posting the nation's ninth-lowest ERA (1.32).

Ninth round (No. 263): LHP Tyler Peitzmeier, Cal State Fullerton
Peitzmeier posted a 2.20 ERA in 30 appearances as Cal State Fullerton's closer this season, striking out 58 batters in 57 1/3 innings.

He relies heavily on his curveball and was named to the 2015 Louisville Slugger All-American Third Team. Peitzmeier models his game after Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee and lists Pete Rose as his favorite baseball player. He finished at the top of his Yutan (Neb.) High School class with a 3.6 grade point average.

10th round (No. 293): SS Vimael Machin, Virginia Commonwealth
Machin was a four-year starter at VCU who was originally selected in the 29th round of the 2010 Draft by the Padres out of Puerto Rico but opted to get his education.

He slashed .339/.401/.441 with 13 doubles in 2015. Born a lefty thrower, his father made Machin switch to righty so he wouldn't be limited to certain positions on the diamond. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder is a left-handed hitter.
