Rizzo ejected for arguing called strike three

MILWAUKEE -- Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo took all three pitches he saw from the Brewers' Kyle Lohse for called strikes in the fourth inning of Sunday's 9-0 loss. The first one was fine. Rizzo objected to the next two, and he voiced his opinion to home-plate umpire Jerry Meals, which resulted in Rizzo's first career ejection.

Strike three appeared to be low and outside. Manager Rick Renteria went out to pull Rizzo away, and he continued the discussion with Meals after his player was ejected but was not tossed himself.

"I didn't agree with the calls obviously," Rizzo said. "I said my piece and definitely understand why I got ejected, and I'll just move on with it."

Which pitches did Rizzo not like?

"The first pitch was a good pitch, changeup," Rizzo said. "The next two I didn't agree with at all. Kyle pitched a good game today. He's impressive out there, and obviously that one at-bat, my emotions got to me a little bit, and I expressed them and I'm just going to take the day off tomorrow and be ready to go Tuesday."

The Cubs have an off-day Monday after Lohse shut them out Sunday opposite Jeff Samardzija, who lasted just three innings for the shortest start of his career.

"Obviously, Jeff didn't have his 'A' game today, and at that point [in the fourth], I was very frustrated and not agreeing with the calls, and I'm going to move on from it," Rizzo said.

The first baseman hit two home runs on Saturday in Chicago's 8-0 win over Milwaukee.
