Montero belts home run using pink bat
MILWAUKEE -- Miguel Montero made a day of special Mother's Day events even more memorable.
Montero, like many other players on both teams Sunday, was using a pink bat as part of MLB's support in the fight against breast cancer.
He used that bat to stake the Cubs to a 1-0 lead with a two-out homer in the sixth inning off Matt Garza.
"Obviously, it's a special day, it's Mother's Day, and nothing makes you feel better than hitting a homer for your mom or your wife," Montero said after the Cubs' 3-2 loss to the Brewers.
In addition to the pink bats, several players on each team wore pink shoes, or shoes trimmed with pink, as well as long-sleeved pink undershirts. Players also wore a symbolic pink ribbon on their uniforms.
Many of the game-used pink bats from Sunday's game will be listed exclusively at MLB.com Auction to help fight breast cancer.
