Alcantara homers twice as Triple-A Iowa tops Memphis

Second baseman Arismendy Alcantara, the Cubs' No. 6 prospect, homered twice Friday, and Triple-A Iowa defeated Memphis, 6-4, in seven innings.

Alcantara, ranked No. 76 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. His first career multi-homer game extended his hitting streak to six games.

Shortstop Javier Baez, the Cubs' No. 1 prospect and MLB's No. 6 overall, went 1-for-4 and scored a run.

Alcantara hit his first home run in the third inning against Redbirds right-hander Zach Petrick, the Cardinals' No. 16 prospect. In the seventh inning, he jumped on the first pitch from reliever Heath Wyatt, driving it out to right field.

In 50 games this season, Alcantara is hitting .286 with seven home runs and 10 stolen bases.

Because Iowa and Memphis were scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday, the game was shortened to seven innings. But a lengthy rain delay before the start of the first game forced the nightcap to be postponed.
