Goldschmidt to wear protective pad on left hand

First baseman's 2014 season cut short by fracture

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt will wear a protective pad on his left hand after fracturing the hand last year.

"I have a pad. I'll probably put it underneath my batting glove or in my batting glove," Goldschmidt said. "Not that it's necessary, but it just seems silly, if it's non-invasive, to not wear it."

Goldschmidt was hit by a pitch on the left hand on Aug. 1 and missed the rest of the season.

"I was taking BP at the end of the season last year, so it was fully healed," he said. "I almost forgot that I broke it, so this was a completely normal offseason."
