Godley to rejoin D-backs, start opener vs. Cubs

DENVER -- Zack Godley will be recalled to start Friday's series opener against the Cubs.

Godley made three starts for the D-backs in late July and early August, allowing three runs over 18 innings before the club sent him back to Double-A Mobile because it wanted to limit his innings total this year.

Godley, who was acquired from the Cubs in the deal that sent Miguel Montero to Chicago in December, was briefly recalled in August to make a pair of relief appearances.

"Even when we sent him down I wanted to start him," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "He started the other day for Mobile and pitched five innings so he'll pitch for us against the Cubs and he'll pitch for us against the Giants and then he will probably go into the bullpen. That's what we have to do just to make sure those innings stay at least in some semblance of being under control."
