Papi extends HR mark at Rogers Centre

Hits No. 38 at ballpark, No. 57 against Blue Jays

TORONTO -- David Oritz has always been able to knock the ball out of the park at Rogers Centre. He was at it again Tuesday night as he swatted a solo shot in a 4-3 Red Sox victory over the Blue Jays.

"Just gotta keep on swinging," Ortiz said.

It was Big Papi's 38th career homer at the Blue Jays' home, the most he's ever hit at visiting ballpark. It's also the most by a visiting player in Rogers Centre history.

"David is in a pretty good place once again," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "There's some hard contact involved."

With the Red Sox holding a 3-0 lead, Oritz sent a monster blast off Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada that Statcast™ estimated to travel 467 feet away from home plate, hitting the facade above the second deck. It was his 13th homer of the season, and sent him past Chipper Jones on the all-time Major League extra-base hit list with 1,056.

Oritiz's success against the Blue Jays isn't limited to Rogers Centre. His 120 extra-base hits are the most by any batter against the Blue Jays, and his highest total against any team over his career. Oritz has gone yard 57 times against the Blue Jays, tying him with Alex Rodriguez for the most all-time against the franchise.
