Price, Archer all wet on 'Off the Bat'
Rays hurlers participate in 'splash pong' on MTV2 show at Fan Cave
After winning four of their past five games, the Rays return to Tropicana Field for a six-game homestand against the Orioles and Indians starting Tuesday. For Chris Archer and David Price, both scheduled to start against Baltimore, this week also pits them against one another.
The two Rays pitchers temporarily put their friendship aside to compete in a messy game of "splash pong" on this week's "Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave" episode, airing at 11 p.m. ET on Tuesday on MTV2. Archer is due to throw the first pitch of this homestand at 7:10 ET, so barring a series opener that goes deep into extra innings, you should be able to watch the episode after this game ends.
The game of splash pong pitted Price and host Melanie Iglesias against Archer and host Chris Distefano, and featured buckets containing substances including water, milk, pasta and more -- all of which ended up poured over the heads of the participants. The two pitchers taped the show Saturday night at the Fan Cave in Manhattan, after that day's 9-3 loss at Yankee Stadium.
Also on this week's episode, rapper (and baseball fan) Yo Gotti, who recently released the single "I Know" from his hit album "I Am," appeared in studio at the Fan Cave to chat with hosts Sway and Fat Joe about baseball and hip hop in a game called "The Cycle." And Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson gives unsuspecting New Yorkers a big surprise as they innocently walk by.
Previous episodes have featured David Ortiz -- the series' executive producer -- as well as in-studio guests Robinson Cano, Bryce Harper, Adam Jones, CC Sabathia and the Cardinals pitching staff of Adam Wainwright, Shelby Miller and Michael Wacha.
"To combine baseball and pop culture, it's such a cool thing with these players," Distefano said. "They live a similar lifestyle to some of these pop culture icons and it's cool to have a guy like Fat Joe, who all the players know, I'm really interested to see when they come to the Fan Cave, what their reaction will be like. I don't think there's ever been a show like this. We're all really excited to be a part of it."
