Brewers ready for first Meetings under Stearns

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The sprawling Opryland Hotel, with its more than 2,700 guest rooms, 17 dining establishments and miles of winding walkways, will provide a fitting stage for a Winter Meetings full of possibilities for David Stearns and the Brewers.

Milwaukee's rookie general manager has already made three trades in the run-up to this event, and he figures to make more in the two months before Spring Training. First baseman Adam Lind, shortstop Jean Segura and catcher Jonathan Lucroy are among those who could join the list of established Major Leaguers traded away by a Brewers team in the midst of a rebuild.

MLB.com and MLB Network will have wall-to-wall coverage of the 2015 Winter Meetings from the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, with the Network launching 35 hours of live Winter Meetings coverage. Fans can also catch live streaming of all news conferences and manager availability on MLB.com, as well as the announcement of the Hall of Fame Pre-Integration Era Committee inductees on Monday at 10 a.m. CT and the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday at 9 a.m. CT.

The Brewers entered the week with three openings on their 40-man roster, so a Rule 5 selection is possible.

Third base, center field top Brewers' wish list

Brewers manager Craig Counsell is scheduled to meet the media at 2:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday.

For the first time since 2002, the Brewers' contingent will hole up in a suite for the week without Doug Melvin at the helm. Melvin announced in August he would transition to an advisory role, and the 30-year-old Stearns replaced him as GM in September.
