Treanor to manage Triple-A Indians for fifth year
Pirates announce full roster of managers and coaches for Minor League affiliates
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Dean Treanor, the dean of managers in the Pirates' Minor League system in more than just name, will be back at the helm of the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians for a fifth straight season. Treanor's return was confirmed Thursday when the club announced the full roster of managers and coaches for its eight Minor League affiliates.
The dismissal following the 2014 season of Double-A Altoona manager Carlos Garcia has triggered promotions throughout the rest of the system, as announced by Larry Broadway, the Bucs' director of Minor League operations.
The newcomer at the lower rung is Wyatt Toregas, who takes over as the short-season Class A West Virginia Black Bears' manager after serving for two seasons as the Pirates' video advance scout.
Brian Esposito, who last season managed the short-season Class A club when it was located in Jamestown, takes over the Class A West Virginia Power. Michael Ryan moves from Class A West Virginia to Class A Advanced Bradenton, whose 2014 skipper, Tom Prince, moves to Altoona.
Returning to their 2014 posts are Rookie League skippers Milver Reyes of the Gulf Coast Pirates and Edgar Varela of the Bristol Pirates.
Broadway also announced staffs for the Bucs' interest in the Dominican Republic: Mendy Lopez will manage Pittsburgh's team at the Dominican Academy, overseen by Gera Alvarez. Dan Urbina, Osiel Flores, Greg Picart and Cecilio Beltre will serve as coaches in the Dominican Republic.
