Gordon, Prado provide one-two punch for Marlins

MIAMI -- It all started at the top for the Marlins on Saturday. The top of the order, Dee Gordon and Martin Prado, put on a speed and power demonstration that was simply overwhelming in Miami's 7-0 victory over the Phillies at Marlins Park Saturday.

Gordon and Prado combined to go 5-for-6 with a homer, double, four runs scored, four RBIs and two stolen bases.

They put the pressure on Cole Hamels, who was tagged for six runs in six innings. Given ample run support early, Dan Haren coasted through six shutout innings, and Miami won for the ninth time in 10 games.

"We knew that Cole Hamels is always a tough competitor," Prado said. "But Danny was great. He was throwing the ball well. I feel Cole was missing a lot of spots. He gave me one good pitch to hit, and I took advantage of that."

Prado provided the big boost early, with his three-run homer in the second inning. Gordon kept the inning alive with a two-out walk.

"It was set up by Dee Gordon," Prado said. "The guy is setting everybody up. It's good to have a guy like that, a speedy guy. In my case, I can see more fastballs. It was overall, a good win. Everyone contributed to this win."

Gordon continues to amaze, going 3-for-3 with two walks, three runs scored and two stolen bases. The speedster has an eight-game hitting streak, batting .645 (20-for-31) in the stretch. He raised his season average to a remarkable .440 with a .463 on-base percentage.

"I'm just trying to help us win. That's it," Gordon said, downplaying his gaudy numbers.

The second baseman even made a terrific catch, going back into short center field and making a basket-catch to rob Carlos Ruiz in the fifth inning.

"That's my favorite play other than trying to throw somebody out at home on a relay," Gordon said. "I did it when I was the shortstop. I'm just trying to make plays for my guys."

The Marlins are now 12-12 after starting off 3-11.

After his big game, Gordon was the one being dunked on by his teammate, Jarred Cosart, during his postgame interview.

"I think we were having fun when we were losing too, but you couldn't have as much fun because you'll get in trouble," Gordon said. "Guys are playing awesome and we just got to continue to do it."
