Lowe, Woodward to represent Red Sox at Draft

The Red Sox will call on one of their former postseason heroes to represent them at this year's First-Year Player Draft.

Derek Lowe, who became the first pitcher in Major League history to win all three clinching games in one postseason, will be one of the two representatives the Red Sox have designated to attend the Draft at MLB Network's Studio 42 in Secaucus, N.J.

Though Lowe had the most defining moments of his career with the Red Sox, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the eighth round back in 1991.

In what proved to be one of the best trades in Red Sox history, Lowe and Jason Varitek were traded from Seattle to Boston for Heathcliff Slocumb on July 31, 1997.

Lowe and Varitek were both key performers in 2004, when the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years.

Lowe threw a no-hitter at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 27, 2002.

Jim Woodward, an area scout for the Red Sox in California, will also be representing the club at the Draft.

The 2014 Draft will take place on June 5-7, beginning with the Draft preview show on MLB.com and MLB Network on Thursday, June 5, at 6 p.m. ET.
