Puig set to start rehab assignment Thursday

Dodgers closer Jansen roughed up in MInors outing

MILWAUKEE -- Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig is expected to begin a Minor League rehab assignment Thursday as a designated hitter for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga, where closer Kenley Jansen had a rough rehab outing Wednesday morning.

Manager Don Mattingly said a video he received showed Puig running the bases hard Wednesday in a test of his strained left hamstring. He is eligible to rejoin the Dodgers Sunday.

Jansen, in his third appearance since February foot surgery, was charged with three runs on two hits, one of them a homer, and a walk. He struck out two but reached a 25-pitch limit before he could finish the inning.

Mattingly said because of the pitch count, Jansen would not pitch again Thursday. Instead, he will tentatively be scheduled to throw back-to-back Saturday and Sunday.

"He felt fine," Mattingly said.

Jansen has targeted a May 15 return to the Dodgers.
