Urias makes start for Triple-A Oklahoma City

LOS ANGELES -- Julio Urias, the Dodgers' No. 2 prospect and the No. 4 overall prospect in the Majors, according to MLB Pipeline, made his first start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.

His start for Oklahoma City was a rocky one. He lasted just one inning, allowing three runs and four walks while striking out a pair. He threw 44 pitches in the inning before being replaced by Juan Jaime.

Urias, 19, went 3-4 this season with a 2.77 ERA in 13 starts for Double-A Tulsa, and he has pitched 77 innings across four levels this season. He missed two months earlier in the season when he underwent elective surgery on his left eye.

The left-hander is in his third season in the Dodgers' farm system. He has never thrown more than 87 2/3 innings in a single season.

"I couldn't tell you, honestly. That'd be an Andrew [Friedman] or player development kind of thing." manager Don Mattingly said on the reasoing behind Urias' promotion. "I knew they were going to move him. I don't know what all went into it."

Mattingly said one possible reason to move Urias up was because Oklahoma City is in position to make the playoffs, while Tulsa is not.

Despite Urias' potential, Mattingly said he would not be joining the Major League team when the rosters expand Tuesday and wouldn't say what the plan is for Urias, along with the Dodgers' top prospect and No. 2 overall prospect, Corey Seager, over the season's final month.
