Solano feeling better after being plunked

MIAMI -- Second baseman Donovan Solano appears to have avoided a concussion, but as a precaution, the Marlins gave him the day off on Sunday.

Solano was plunked by a fastball in the 10th inning of Miami's 2-1 win over the Tigers at Marlins Park on Saturday.

Evan Reed, a former Marlins prospect, threw a 95-mph fastball that struck the helmet behind Solano's left ear.

On Sunday morning, Solano said he was free of concussion-like symptoms, but he felt a little woozy when moving his head quickly.

"The doctor said, I am OK," Solano said. "But when I move too quick, I feel something. It's not a concussion."

Solano finished his season batting .249 in 102 games with three home runs, and 34 RBIs.

He will enter Spring Training either competing for a starting job or as a utility player.

Ed Lucas started at second base on Sunday.
