Extra bases

• Rays pitchers struck out 14 Twins on Wednesday night after striking out 12 in the series opener. That marked the first time they've recorded 12-plus strikeouts in consecutive games since July 10-11 against Minnesota. The club record for consecutive 12-strikeout games is three, and it happened three times -- all in 2012.

• Since right-hander Alex Cobb (left oblique strain) was placed on the disabled list on April 13, Rays starters have lasted five innings or fewer in seven of nine games and have compiled a 6.65 ERA heading into Thursday afternoon's game.

• Entering Thursday's action, the Rays had doubled in 21 straight games to begin the season and are the only team in baseball with a double in every game this year. No other team went more than 14 games with a double to start the 2014 season. Twenty-eight games is the longest double streak by an American League team to start a season. The '12 Royals and '06 Indians each had streaks of 28 games. The '12 Nationals hold the record with 35 consecutive games with a double.
