Fan dies in fall from upper deck in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- A fan who fell from the upper deck at Turner Field on Saturday night has died.

The Fulton County Medical Center revealed that the deceased man was Gregory Murrey, 60, of Alpharetta, Ga.

"The Atlanta Braves are deeply saddened by the loss of Greg Murrey at last night's game'" the Braves said in a statement. "Greg was a valued and longtime season ticket holder and an incredibly passionate Braves fan. This tragic loss is felt throughout Braves Country, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire Braves organization continue to go out to his family and friends."

As Alex Rodriguez was coming to the plate for a pinch-hit appearance in the seventh inning of Saturday's game between the Yankees and Braves, the man fell approximately 40 feet from the upper deck into the lower bowl section directly behind home plate.

Former Brave and current Yankees catcher Brian McCann's mother was seated near the tragic accident, and Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons was seen leaving the ballpark with his fiancée as she wiped tears from her eyes.

"Our hearts go out to the family," Brian McCann said.

Fans seated in the section where the man fell showed immediate concern as paramedics rushed to the scene, performed CPR and took him away on a stretcher.

Hampton said the initial indication is that no foul play was involved. An official ruling will not be provided until the medical examiner completes his evaluation.

"Huge condolences out to that family," Braves pitcher Matt Wisler said. "That's terrible. You never want to hear something like that. We were all in the dugout paying more attention to that than the game when it first happened. It's terribly sad to hear. We really hope for the best for that family. It's sad to see something tragic like that happen at a game."
