Phillies, Phanatic and Fairmount Park Conservancy go green for Earth Day

2:21 PM EDT

This Earth Day, April 22, volunteers from the Phillies front office continued an annual tradition by teaming up with Fairmount Park Conservancy to care for the natural habitat surrounding FDR Park’s Pattison Lagoon. Those in attendance helped care for the park by mulching trees, watering young plants and pulling weeds.

Pattison Lagoon is a testament to the positive impact that volunteers can have on local ecology. For many decades, this lagoon faced environmental challenges including pollution and invasive plant species. For more than three years, restoration efforts led by Fairmount Park Conservancy and dedicated volunteers—through cleanups, tree care, weeding, mulching, and planting—have significantly improved its ecological health. Today, the lagoon supports a stronger ecological balance, providing valuable habitat for native flora and fauna, as well as migratory species. During Earth Month in April, volunteer efforts will focus on caring for young plants and trees to ensure their long-term health and lasting impact on the park.

The event served as part of the Phillies’ Red Goes Green and Give Back initiatives.
