Phillies players and staff honor Mental Health Awareness Night in the community
Throughout May, the Phillies continued their efforts to highlight the importance of mental health by hosting multiple “Strike Out the Stigma” events presented by Park Avenue Worldwide, both at the ballpark and in the community, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.
On Saturday, May 9, the Phillies hosted “Mental Health Awareness Night” at Citizens Bank Park. Before that night’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Phillies players and coaches donned “Never Fightin’ Alone” Strike Out the Stigma t-shirts to support the cause.
That same evening, the team hosted its second sold-out Strike Out the Stigma session of the season, with special guests including Sesame Street’s Elmo and Sesame Workshop’s Dr. Rosemarie T. Truglio, to discuss mental health and healthy life habits
The following week, the team hosted over 300 healthcare heroes working in the mental health field to the Philadelphia Insurance club for a “Happiness Hour” appreciation party, to give thanks for all their work in the community. Guests were treated to dinner, ballpark tours, special prizes and even a meet & greet with Phillies alumni.
On Monday, May 18, the team took the Strike Out the Sigma panel on the road, hosting an assembly and panel for students, aged K-10, at MaST Charter School III in Philadelphia, with the team’s Director, Mental Health Dr. Deanna Nobleza, and 1993 National League champion Milt Thompson.
The Strike Out the Stigma program was also presented a Commendation Award by the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Mental Health Stigma.
