Florida truly home sweet home to Castellanos

Tigers third baseman still returns to birthplace of Davie in offseason

Nick Castellanos, 3B, Tigers
Hometown: Davie, Fla.

Nick Castellanos was born, raised and still makes his offseason home in Davie, Fla.

Castellanos prepped at Archbishop McCarthy High School, where he was named Florida's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2010 after hitting .542 with six home runs, 41 RBIs and 22 stolen bases as a senior.

Growing up in Davie -- a short 15-minute drive to the Marlins' former home, Sun Life Stadium -- also made Castellanos a huge Marlins fan as a youngster.

"I don't really remember the 1997 series, because I was, like, 4 years old, but I was there," Castellanos told The Miami Herald last season. "I remember Bobby Bonilla lifting Jim Leyland up.

"I actually went to all the 2003 games. Alex Fernandez got me and my family tickets. I was there when Miguel [Cabrera] hit that opposite-field home run against [Roger] Clemens and then Alex Gonzalez hit the game-winning home run in extras. I was there for all of them."
