Former All-Star Wilson to represent Bucs at Draft

PITTSBURGH -- Former All-Star shortstop Jack Wilson will be at the Pirates' table when the 2014 First-Year Player Draft kicks off on June 5.

Wilson, in only his second year of retirement following a 12-year career, was named on Wednesday one of 30 former playing greats to receive the honor of representing his big league alma mater at MLB Network headquarters for the Draft.

The 2014 Draft will take place on June 5-7, beginning with the Draft preview show on MLB.com and MLB Network on Thursday, June 5, at 6 p.m. ET. Live Draft coverage from MLB Network's Studio 42 begins at 7 p.m., with the top 74 picks being streamed on MLB.com and broadcast on MLB Network. MLB.com's exclusive coverage of the second and third days will begin with a live Draft show at 12:30 p.m. ET on June 6.

Wilson earned All-Star laurels in 2004, in the middle of a season in which he hit .308 while collecting 201 hits that included the rare triple double: 41 doubles, 12 triples and 11 homers. Consequently, that same year he was awarded the Silver Slugger for shortstops.

On Opening Day, Wilson returned to PNC Park to represent center fielder Andrew McCutchen and third baseman Pedro Alvarez as they received their 2013 Silver Slugger Awards. On June 5, Wilson will represent the entire Pirates organization.
