Game Four of the 2012 World Series dedicated to celebrating the work of Habitat for Humanity

Game Four of the 2012 World Series is dedicated to celebrating the work of Habitat for Humanity, a long-time partner of Major League Baseball. Baseball will honor the organization’s efforts and its volunteers for their unwavering commitment to providing safe, decent and affordable housing in partnership with low-income families. Major League Baseball will also encourage fans to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission. The pre-game will feature singer, actress and a judge on FOX’s THE X FACTOR Demi Lovato performing the National Anthem. Game Four will take place on Sunday, October 28^th at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX, featuring the Detroit Tigers vs. the San Francisco Giants.

MLB AND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: To amplify Habitat’s important cause, Major League Baseball has utilized its largest national stages – the World Series and the All-Star Game – to highlight the need for affordable housing and as physical locations on which new homes have been constructed.  MLB first partnered with Habitat following the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, leveraging the first World Series ever in Houston as a platform to generate media attention, raise money and build homes in support of Habitat’s mission.  This summer, Major League Baseball teamed up with the Players Trust and State Farm to use the All-Star Game in Kansas City to support the rebuilding effort in the Midwest and the South East, which was necessitated by the destruction of the tornadoes which touched down in those regions in the spring of last year.  In all, MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association have contributed to the construction of more than 40 new homes through the partnership with Habitat for Humanity. 

LOCAL NEIGHBORHOOD VISIT: Prior to the game, Major League Baseball, the Detroit Tigers and Habitat for Humanity will visit the Morningside Commons neighborhood, and MLB will make a donation to the Leaders to Rebuild Detroit Initiative, in which Habitat for Humanity Detroit plays a key role. The goal is to bring together local philanthropists and philanthropically-minded corporations, associations and organizations to transform Detroit’s Morningside Commons neighborhood, which was hit hard by the recent economic and housing crises.

FIRST-PITCH: The first pitch at Comerica Park will be thrown by Tigers legend and member of the 2006 American League Championship team Magglio Ordoñez.

NATIONAL ANTHEM PERFORMANCE: Singer, actress and a judge on FOX’s THE X FACTOR Demi Lovato will perform the National Anthem.  Lovato has released three studio albums and has been featured in four movies and numerous television series to her credit. Her latest album, "Unbroken," has spawned two platinum singles: "Skyscraper," which received an MTV VMA for "Best Video with a Message," and her #1 smash hit, "Give Your Heart a Break."  Lovato will add another accolade to the list as she takes a well-deserved spot alongside Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, and Britney Spears at the judges' table for season 2 of THE X FACTOR on FOX.

ROBERTO CLEMENTE AWARD PRESENTED CHEVROLET: Major League Baseball will announce the recipient of the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevrolet at a press conference prior to Game Four. The award recognizes the MLB player who best represents the game of baseball through positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement. The annual award, named for the 15-time All-Star and Hall of Famer who died in a plane crash on New Year’s Eve 1972 while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua, pays tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character by recognizing current players who truly understand the value of helping others.

FIRST-BALL DELIVERY FROM BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF AMERICA: Da’Lano Bass, 15, from the Diehl Club of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan will deliver the first ball to the mound. He is a sophomore at Cass Technical School in Detroit.
