Casilla progressing quickly in injury rehab
CINCINNATI -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that right-hander Santiago Casilla, the team's top setup reliever, is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a strained right hamstring.
Bochy said Casilla has resumed running and throwing, though he hasn't practiced pitching off a mound yet. Nor has a date been set for that test, Bochy added. Casilla, 33, was expected to miss at least four weeks.
Responding to a question, Bochy said that Casilla, who hurt himself during an ill-advised sprint to first base May 21 at Colorado, will need to pitch a few games in a Minor League injury rehabilitation assignment before he can rejoin the Giants.
Casilla is 1-1 with a 1.37 ERA and one save in 22 appearances. Opponents are batting .205 off him.
