Greatest Blue Jays Comebacks

There is no better feeling than a come-from-behind win, and on Monday evening I experienced that thrill as the Toronto Blue Jays came back from a 7-0 deficit to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-7. With my heart still beating from the dramatic victory, here are the top five come-from-behind wins in Blue Jays history.

June 4, 1989: Down 10-0 by the time the seventh inning rolled around, the Blue Jays rallied back, scoring two in the seventh, four in the eighth, five in the ninth and two in the 11th to defeat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 13-11. Ernie Whitt was imperative to the win, going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.

May 6, 2013: In last night’s win over the Rays, the Blue Jays overcame a 7-0 deficit to win 8-7. The team was down to their last strike, trailing 7-6, when J.P. Arencibia hit a two-run home run that sealed the team’s win. Pinch-hitting in the sixth inning, Mark DeRosa also hit a two-run home run.

April 27, 2003: If your team was down 9-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning, it is likely you would have headed for the exit to avoid traffic. Had you done this on April 27, 2003, however, you would have missed the Blue Jays scoring six runs on route to a 10-9 win over the Royals. The game ended when Shannon Stewart hit an infield single, but the shortstop overthrew the ball, allowing Dave Berg to score.

June 5, 2007: John Gibbons was the winning manager in yet another come-from-behind win against the Rays. The Blue Jays scored six runs in the ninth to get the win. Interestingly enough, a bases-loaded walk to Aaron Hill was the difference in the game.

May 14, 2010: While this game is one of 13 occasions where the team has overcome a deficit of five runs, it doesn’t make it any less exciting. The team scored three in the first, eight in the third and four in the fourth to defeat the Rangers by a final score of 16-11.
