Grieving Remy to miss Sox's weekend slate

Longtime Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy and the New England Sports Network released a statement on Friday following the arrest of Remy's son, Jared, on a murder charge in Waltham, Mass.

"This morning, we learned of a terrible tragedy. All of us at NESN and the Red Sox, along with Jerry Remy, are filled with grief for everyone involved, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Jennifer Martel," read the statement, sent out by the Red Sox on behalf of NESN.

Jared Remy was arraigned on Friday in Waltham District Court and entered pleas of not guilty to charges of murder and domestic assault and battery in connection with the death of Martel on Thursday night.

Jerry Remy, the former Red Sox second baseman who has been a color analyst for the team's games since 1988, will not broadcast Friday's game, and with national telecasts scheduled for the Sox over the weekend, he would not return to the booth before Monday, at the earliest. Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley, a NESN studio analyst and former Red Sox pitcher, will replace Remy in the broadcast booth for Friday night's game against the Yankees.
