Hall of Famer Perez to attend All-Star Game in Cincinnati
Former Reds great played in 1970 Midsummer Classic at Riverfront Stadium, six others
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- When the All-Star Game returns to Cincinnati this summer, one of the Reds' iconic players will be there to take it all in. Hall of Famer Tony Perez is among the club's former members who will attend.
"I can't wait to go and see another All-Star Game played there," said Perez, who played 16 of his 23 seasons with the Reds.
Perez, who now works in the Marlins' front office, played from 1964-1986 and hit 379 home runs, plus 1,652 RBIs that are the most for a player from Latin America. He was part of the Big Red Machine teams that won the World Series in 1975-76.
A seven-time All-Star, Perez played in the 1970 Midsummer Classic that was held at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium. The game was also held there in 1988 after he retired and moved into coaching.
"Cincinnati is one of the biggest baseball cities with fans who have supported the team for years and years. It's a tradition," Perez said by phone. "The All-Star Game going back to Cincinnati after [27] years is tremendous for the city, the team and all of baseball."
