Hanigan expected to be activated Wednesday

ST. PETERSBURG -- Ryan Hanigan (right hamstring tightness) is expected to be activated on Wednesday and the Rays catcher is ready to go.

Hanigan, who has been on the disabled list since May 28, went 0-for-3 with a walk while serving as the DH for Class A Charlotte on Monday.

"Feel good, got some at-bats, saw some pitches, got another sweat in," Hanigan said. "Got to keep getting my work in. Got some work in today. So I feel good. Body feels good. Ready to go."

Rays manager Joe Maddon said that Hanigan is "looking good" to play Wedensday.

"Yeah, he's looking good," Maddon said. "He did really well, he came out and hit today. I spoke with him, he's feeling pretty spiffy, so it's more than likely gonna happen tomorrow."

Hanigan allowed that he was relieved to be returning to the active roster.

"I was tired of watching," Hanigan said. "Injury feels better. So, leg feels strong. Body feels good. I should be ready."

Hanigan injured his leg while running out a ground ball when the team played in Anaheim. After nursing the injury for the next week, he finally went on the DL.

When asked if he was glad he went on the DL to avoid injuring himself further, Hanigan replied: "I don't know."

"I guess I had no choice," he said. "It's tough with the little run we've been on -- the way the team's been playing. Just want to come back and help, try and bring some energy and help out any way I can."
