Home Run Derby start delayed by rain

MINNEAPOLIS -- With intermittent rain showers hitting the Twin Cities on Monday, a rain delay was announced for the 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby at Target Field.

The announcement came at roughly 7 p.m. CT, which was when the event was scheduled to begin. The weather delay pushed back the festivities indefinitely.

The sky cleared up by the time the announcement was made, but several showers hit during Gatorade All-Star Workout Day, forcing both the American League and the National League to cut their batting practice sessions short.

Rain remains in the forecast throughout much of the night in Minneapolis. It's not the first time rain has affected the Home Run Derby, as the event was cancelled in 1988 at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati. That remains the only Derby to be cancelled due to weather.
