Hamstring 'fine,' Fields tosses bullpen session

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Astros right-hander Josh Fields threw in the bullpen Tuesday morning without any issues, he said.

Fields had his second bullpen of the spring pushed back a day because tightness in his left hamstring that appears to have cleared up.

"Oh, it's fine," Fields said of his hamstring. "It didn't give me any problems today at all. I think it was just something real minor, and I thank the Lord it's not lingering. It was fine."

Manager A.J. Hinch said if Fields was nursing any sort of discomfort, he certainly didn't show it. "He looked great," Hinch said. "He looked the same as he did a few days ago, and he said he felt great. He went through the whole program, including some of the conditioning. He has one gear, and he uses it every time he throws."

Fields, 29, said that one of his goals this year was to stay healthy. Despite a stint on the disabled list last year with right forearm soreness, Fields appeared in a career-high 54 games and posted a 4.45 ERA. Fields trained for four months at Sparc Sports Performance and Rehabilitation Center in his hometown of Athens, Ga., and is happy with the progress.

"They helped me take my training to the next level, so hopefully I can maintain that and that'll carry over into the season and hopefully help me elevate my game a little bit more," he said.
