ICYMI: Myers goes yard, but Friars fall

Ian Kennedy walked into Friday's start with a lifetime 3.02 ERA over nine starts at Coors Field and an even more impressive 2.96 ERA over 21 career starts against the Rockies. While Kennedy continued to build upon his resume, the Padres were unable to support him as they fell, 7-4, against Colorado.

Entering his start on Friday, Kennedy had accumulated eight starts at Coors Field -- known as a hitter-friendly park -- in which he surrendered four runs or fewer. He yielded only four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings on Friday for another quality start in the Mile High City.

The Padres' bullpen continued to struggle out of the gate, however, as the two relievers who followed Kennedy coughed up three more earned runs. Rookie Jay Jackson and Marc Rzepczynski combined for three runs over two-thirds of an inning on two hits and one walk. Relievers Nick Vincent and Jon Edwards pitched well afterward, with Edwards recording three strikeouts in his one inning.

Meanwhile, Wil Myers continued to play well since his return off the 60-day disabled list as he went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a solo home run, his eighth of the year. Melvin Upton Jr. enjoyed an excellent night at the plate as he finished 3-for-4 with one run scored and a double. Cory Spangenberg also contributed with his 17th RBI of the season thanks to an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Outside of these individual performances, however, San Diego struggled to make headway as Colorado combined to strike out 10 Padres batters.
