Raul Ibanez captures top two social media moments of 2012 Postseason last night
2012 Postseason social media comments double 2011 LDS total; MLB Network ties for its highest rated game in history
For 41 minutes on Wednesday night, Raul Ibanez's pinch-hit, game tying home run in the ninth inning of ALDS Game Three was the most talked about moment of the 2012 Postseason on social media, with 38,549 comments in the five minutes following his homer.
But then his 12th inning game-winning home run nearly doubled the mark, as baseball fans reacted with 74,972 public Twitter and Facebook comments in the five minutes following Ibanez's walk-off to set a new high for the 2012 Postseason, according to data from Bluefin Labs.
Nearly two hours later, Coco Crisp's game-winning hit to force Game Five vs. the Tigers capped a wild 12 hour stretch of Postseason baseball that promises to be rivaled today, which is the first day since October 9, 1999 with four potential elimination games on the same day (and only the fifth ever). Wednesday's four games combined for 783,969 social media comments, the most for any day of baseball since the 2012 All-Star Game.
Overall, the 2012 Postseason has generated more than 2.6 million social media comments, already doubling the total from the entire 2011 Division Series.
Wednesday night's Yankees-Orioles ALDS Game Three was the most-watched game of the 2012 Postseason so far with 5.8 million viewers on TBS. In addition, MLB Network's telecast of Nationals-Cardinals NLDS Game Four drew a 1.3 coverage rating, tied with Sunday's A's-Tigers ALDS Game Two as the highest in MLB Network history.
