If Reds advance, Latos likely to start NLDS opener

CINCINNATI -- Reds starting pitcher Mat Latos probably won't be included on the National League Wild Card roster because of arm soreness. However, Latos is still considered likely to start Game 1 of the potential NL Division Series.

Latos and manager Dusty Baker met Sunday morning.

"He was going to see if he can possibly come in, in relief on Tuesday, and I said I didn't like that idea," Baker said. "Maybe try to get him ready for Thursday."

Johnny Cueto is starting the Wild Card game against the Pirates on Tuesday night at PNC Park. Latos had originally been targeted to start that game.

"We've got full faith in Johnny Cueto, and hopefully this works out fine, we win Tuesday, Latos comes back and is ready Thursday," Baker said. "If not we'll go a different direction."

Latos declined to speak with reporters Sunday.
