Inclement weather postpones Twins-Tigers finale

No make-up date has been announced, but it will likely come in August

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins' scheduled game with the Tigers on Sunday at Target Field was postponed due to inclement weather, and it will be made up at a later date.

With rain and high winds in the forecast, the decision to postpone the game came two and a half hours before the scheduled first pitch. The makeup date has yet to be officially announced, but Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said it's likely to come when the Tigers are back at Target Field from Aug. 22-24.

"It's pretty much going to be ugly all day with high winds, and the temperature is not good," Gardenhire said. "It would be really ugly out. And [Monday] is not an option either. We'll probably play this one in August, when they come back in town."

Right-hander Kyle Gibson was slated to start for the Twins on Sunday but will now be pushed back to Tuesday against the Dodgers, as the order of the rotation will remain the same. Gibson threw a bullpen session despite the rain on Sunday in order to stay sharp for Tuesday's outing.

"Gibby will go on Tuesday, and we'll just push everybody back one," Gardenhire said.

Gardenhire also had positive news to report on third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who would've been in the lineup if the game had been played. Plouffe suffered a left triceps contusion in Saturday's game when he was hit by a pitch on his left arm. Plouffe left that game in the seventh inning as a result.

"Trevor Plouffe came in feeling good," Gardenhire said. "He had a miracle patch the trainers put on him. So that's a good thing. I didn't think he'd be able to go today. I was happy … that [he was]. He came in feeling great. So we can move forward from there and not have to worry about Tuesday."

Fans holding tickets to the postponed game have two options: they can use their tickets for the rescheduled game, or utilize the value of their ticket (amount paid) as a voucher toward any future Twins regular-season game in 2014. Any exchanges must be made at the Target Field box office at least 48 hours prior to the rescheduled game.

Sunday marked the second time a game had been postponed due to weather at Target Field this season. It was also the 10th postponed game at Target Field since it opened in 2010.
