Indians place Damon on paternity list; recall Matt LaPorta from Columbus

The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has placed OF JOHNNY DAMON on the Paternity List and recalled INF/OF MATT LaPORTA from Triple-A Columbus.

Damon is currently hitting .180 (16-89) with 9 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 5 RBI in 25 games for Cleveland since being added to the roster on May 1.  He can remain on the Paternity List up to 3 days.

LaPorta has spent the entire 2012 season to date at AAA Columbus where he has hit .307 (51-166) with 8 doubles, 14 home runs and 32 RBI in 46 games (.399OB/.608SLG/ 1.007OPS).  He is currently hitting .333 (19-57) with 3 2B, 4HR & 11 RBI off left-handed pitching to date.  Among International League leaders he currently ranks 2nd in slugging pct. (.608) and home runs (T2nd, 14), 3rd in OPS (.1.007), 6th in batting average (.307), 7th in total bases (102), runs scored (31) and on-base pct. (.399) and 8th in RBI (32).  He has appeared in 19 games in left field and 18 games at first base with the Clippers.  He will be making his 2012 debut with Cleveland on Sunday wearing #7.
