Bauer scratched due to illness, slated to start vs. Royals

DETROIT -- The Indians were forced to make a last-minute adjustment to their rotation on Saturday after right-hander Trevor Bauer was unable to get through his warmup routine.

Shortly before Cleveland's 4-1 loss to the Tigers, the Indians announced that Bauer was scratched from his scheduled start due to illness. The right-hander attempted to work through his pregame long-toss program, but had to stop after he continued to feel sick.

"He ate something last night and thought it didn't go down well," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He got here early and tried to get a bunch of fluids and stuff in him. He went out to warm up, because he thought he could do it. We told him, 'Hey man, not pitching is probably better than going one and realizing you can't.'"

"So we had TJ [House] on kind of alert. He was out there with him. Once Trevor started to not feel good, we had TJ start the game."

House replaced Bauer as Cleveland's starting pitcher on Saturday and took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in three innings.

Francona indicated that right-handers Carlos Carrasco and Corey Kluber are still slated to start on Sunday and Monday, respectively. House was originally penciled in as the Tribe's starter for Tuesday's home tilt against the Royals, but Bauer is now tentatively scheduled to start that game.
