Peavy part of Giants' country-boy rotation

Jake Peavy
Hometown: Semmes, Ala.

Jake Peavy is locker-stall neighbors with fellow Alabama resident Tim Hudson inside the Giants' clubhouse, but the two good friends have one key difference: Hudson is an Auburn fan; Peavy is an Alabama fan.

Along with Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain and Hudson, Peavy gives the Giants' starting rotation a distinct country feel to it, as they each hail from the Southeast.

Peavy's father, Donny, was a skilled carpenter known around the area for the cabinets he and his father made in the backyard shop. The Peavy family didn't have many of the creature comforts, but they did own a TV that got the Braves on TBS. Jake rooted for Atlanta.

Baseball wasn't the only sport he excelled at. He was skilled at hunting and fishing, too, and couldn't wait to get his driver's license so he could emulate his heroes in NASCAR.

Peavy is very proud of his Southern roots, and it's easy to see why.

Peavy married childhood friend Katie Alford in 2000, when he was 19 years old. Jake and Katie and their three sons live in his hometown of Semmes, Ala., in the offseason.
