CF Jankowski 2-for-4 in return to Triple-A El Paso lineup

Center fielder Travis Jankowski returned to the lineup of Triple-A El Paso Wednesday night and was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.

The Padres' two 18-year-olds at low Single-A Fort Wayne combined for six hits.However, second baseman Luis Urias and shortstop Ruddy Giron weren't even the biggest guns in the TinCaps' 14-1 rout of Dayton at Fort Wayne.

Nineteen-year-old, right fielder Franmil Reyes (.236) hit a grand slam (his sixth homer) and a sacrifice fly in three at-bats for five RBIs. Fort Wayne improved to 50-51 and remained in second place in the Northwest League's second-half Eastern Division standings.

First baseman Trae Santos, 22, (.257) was 5-for-5 with two doubles (26 on the season) and his eighth homer with three RBIs and two runs scored. Third baseman Luis Tejada, 22, (.328) was 3-for-5 with his second homer, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Urias, the youngest player in the Midwest League was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored to raise his batting average to .33. He is 33-for-84 in 21 games with nine RBIs with a .452 on-base percentage and an .868 OPS.

Giron, the second-youngest player in the Midwest League, was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. He is hitting .307 in 62 games with the TinCaps with eight doubles, four triples and eight homers for 34 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has a .816 OPS.

Starting right-hander Chris Huffman (5-6, 3.52 earned run average) allowed one run on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts over seven innings to pick up the win for Fort Wayne. Left-hander Taylor Cox (4.40 ERA) allowed a hit with a strikeout in two scoreless innings.

At El Paso, Jankowski, 24, the 44th overall pick in the 2012 draft, returned after missing the past two games with a sore hip. He is hitting .542 in five games at Triple-A -- he's going 11-for-20 with three doubles, three steals, five RBIs and five runs scored.

Meanwhile, catcher Tim Federowicz was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk as El Paso's designated hitter. He has one more day on his 20-day rehab assignment -- he has been on the disabled list since having surgery to repair a tear to the meniscus in his right knee -- before the Padres must activate him or move him. He is hitting .200.

Third baseman Will Middlebrooks (.379) was 3-for-5 with a RBI Wednesday. He is 11-for-29 with a double, two homers and eight RBIs in seven games since by optioned to El Paso by the Padres on July 22.

AROUND THE FARM

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (54-50): Tacoma 5, CHIHUAHUAS 1 -- Starting RHP Colin Rea (2-1, 4.58 ERA) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in three innings. RHP Aaron Northcraft (7.31) allowed a run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings. RHPs Nick Vincent (4.29) and Jerry Sullivan (3.58) each allowed a run on two hits in an inning.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (43-60): CORPUS CHRISTI 7, Missions 6 -- LF Yeison Asencio (.283) was 2-for-4 with his 10th home run and three RBIs. RF Hunter Renfroe (.268) hit his 13th homer in four at-bats with two runs scored. SS Benji Gonzalez (.267), 3B Duanel Jones (.263) and DH Diego Goris (.263) were all 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Starting RHP James Needy (4-1, 2.97 ERA) allowed seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. LHP Eury De La Rosa blew the save, allowing two hits and a walk in two-thirds of a scoreless inning.

HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (39-63): Inland Empire 5, STORM 3 -- DH Nick Schulz (.243) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. SS Felipe Blanco (.237) was 2-for-4. Starting RHP Ernesto Montas (0-1, 6.00 ERA) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks in four innings. RHP Rafael De Paula (5.24) allowed a hit with a strikeout in two scoreless innings. RHP Cecil Tanner (5.00) walked one in two otherwise perfect innings with two strikeouts.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (23-18): Hillsboro 5, DUST DEVILS 4 -- 1B Ty France (.307), from San Diego State, was 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. CF Rod Boykin (.262) was 1-for-4 with a walk, his 12th steal and two runs scored. Starting RHP Walker Lockett (2.66 ERA) gave up an unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts in four innings. LHP Griffin Russell (2-2, 4.82) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in an inning. RHP Luis Hernandez (3.38) allowed three hits with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings. RHP Corey Kimber (1.17) allowed an unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings.

ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (14-17): PADRES 7, Indians 2 -- Starting RHP Joel Linares (3-1, 3.21 ERA) allowed a run on four hits with three walks with eight strikeouts in five innings. RHP Blake Rogers (2.84) allowed a hit with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 scoreless innings to get his fifth save. 1B Brad Zunica (.250) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. RF Alan Garcia (.393) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (22-29): Diamondbacks 4, PADRES 2 -- CF Angel Santos (.272) and LF Ariel Ortega (.339) were each 2-for-4. Starting RHP Jamito Lebron (0-1, 6.75 ERA) allowed a run on a hit with a strikeout in an inning. RHP Emmanuel Clase (2.13) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. RHP Jonathan Guzman (2.36) gave up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
