Heyward, Uggla homer as Braves rout Phillies

Beachy exits start after two innings due to right arm tightness

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Jason Heyward needed to see just two pitches from Cliff Lee on Monday to help the Braves to a victory over the Phillies at Bright House Field.

He hit the second pitch of the game out to right field for a home run in an 8-1 Atlanta win.

It was his third homer and third RBI of the spring.

Dan Uggla hit a two-run homer to left field in the fourth inning against Phillies left-hander Mario Hollands to make it a three-run lead. Atlanta pulled away with a five-run seventh inning.

The Phillies could not get much of anything going against the Braves, which has been their story this spring. They entered the afternoon last in baseball with a .194 team batting average and .595 OPS.

Braves right-hander Brandon Beachy left the game after just two scoreless innings. He said he experienced some discomfort around his right elbow and biceps. He had been scheduled to pitch four innings.

Up next: Julio Teheran will attempt to halt an alarming trend when the Braves send him to the mound to face the Phillies on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. ET at Disney (listen on Gameday Audio). Atlanta lost Kris Medlen to a potentially serious elbow injury on Sunday and then watched Beachy's elbow limit him to two innings on Monday. With the statuses of Medlen and Beachy in doubt, Teheran could become an even more integral part of Atlanta's rotation during his second year at the big league level.
